BeGlobal in Nice: Playing Global Citizenship

3.5% is the share of the world’s population needed to drive significant social change.

From October 27th to 30th, 2025, the beautiful city of Nice became a vibrant hub of creativity, cultural exchange, and collective purpose. Hosted by the Université Côte d’Azur (UniCA), the BeGlobal Study Visit brough together participants from Colombia, Chile, and Finland for three inspiring days dedicated to designing Serious Games for Global Citizenship, followed by the consortium meeting that concluded the event.

The main goal of the study visit was to collaboratively develop scenarios for the BeGlobal serious games, a process that blended knowledge, imagination, and teamwork across cultures. Throughout the event, the atmosphere was filled with energy and a genuine sense of belonging among participants who, despite coming from diverse countries and academic traditions, shared the same vision: to foster global competence through innovative education

During the workshops, participants worked side by side in small teams, creating storyboards and developing their first prototypes, guided by UniCA’s expert game designers. After each session, groups exchanged constructive feedback on one another’s ideas, refining their concepts together. Participants also attended a lecture from the Neuroclima project team, discovering new approaches to game-based learning that could enrich their own designs.

A session on future thinking and gamification, led by experts from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, encouraged everyone to reflect on the kind of future we wish to create. The workshop inspired participants to become change-makers, to choose hope over fear, and to see how Serious Games can prepare learners to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.

Networking sessions provided opportunities to explore potential collaborations among universities and countries. Many promising ideas emerged and will be further analysed for future partnership opportunities within and beyond the Erasmus+ framework.

But the agenda wasn’t all about work. There was also space for relaxation, and cultural discovery. A lively Zumba session had everyone dancing and laughing together, perfectly capturing the BeGlobal spirit: joy in diversity, learning through movement, and the belief that collaboration can be both productive and fun.

The study visit took place across three UniCA campuses, allowing participants to experience the richness and diversity of the university’s learning environments, all while savouring delicious local cuisine.

The final day was devoted to the consortium meeting, a moment to review progress, align goals, and define next steps. Conversations were forward-looking and constructive, building on the enthusiasm and insights generated during the study visit.

The BeGlobal Study Visit in Nice was a living example of what Global Citizenship in action truly means: people from different corners of the world working, learning, and creating together — proving that when education is infused with creativity and heart, it can truly make us global citizens

One number will be remembered from this visit: 3.5%: the percentage of the population it takes to spark meaningful social change. The BeGlobal consortium embraces this idea:  Let’s be part of that 3.5%!
